Thoughts about the new message board.

Well, I thought I would start this one off. No advertisements!
I'm sorry there's really no way to transfer the wealth of information from the old forum here. There are years of valuable information there. At least I will continue to leave the link to the old message board and maybe folks can still look up old topics. If something was really helpful, feel free to post it here again.
This was all set up by my son who is very knowledgeable about software and computer tech, although he's pretty busy so he may not have time to fix things going wrong here. I'll just have to do the best I can.
I guess we'll just see how this goes,
Bruce Hirst

This is the same software as the other message boards I frequent use, so this is 'normal' for me
Is there any chance for a ''dark mode' or importing of the old topics, even if just "archived" and no replies to them?

Sorry but I would have no idea how to do that. I'm not sure it's even possible. But I'll keep a link to the old board for reference.

I believe you tried to add a photo by clicking on the little square button with the photo icon above where you type your message. This is where you can put a link to a photo located somewhere else on the internet. In order to use this icon you would need to put a web address between the "img" tags with brackets.
However, if you want to upload a photo from your computer and post it here, you will need to follow these instructions:
If you look at the bottom of the screen right now, you will see a rectangular button that says "Full Editor & Preview. Click on that to get started if you wanted to try and post the photo here or go to where on the board you want to post it. You won't be able to do it using the "Quick Reply" box.
Next, you should see the large empty box where you would type your message. Look below that box and you will see a couple of tabs that say "Options" and "Attachments". You will want to pick on the tab that says "Attachments".
After you do that you will see a little button that says "Add Files". Pick on that button. It will bring up a screen that will let you choose a picture file currently on your computer. Choose the picture you want to upload and hit "OK". Keep in mind that the picture file cannot be larger than 1 meg. If it is, you will need to reduce the size of the photo somehow before it will let you add it.
If the photo is smaller than 1 meg, it should show up under the "Attachments" tab. It may take a few seconds for the photo to upload.
To the right of the name, you will see two boxes that say "Place Inline" and "Delete File". Keep your eye on the "Place Inline" button because you will need it later.
Now it's time to type your message. When you are ready to insert your photo, go down below and hit that button that says "Place Inline". In your message it will say something like "Attachment" in brackets which will also have the name of your file in it, but you will not see your photo yet.
Directly under the box where you are typing your message you should see a button that says "Preview". Hit that button and see if your image shows up. If it did, go ahead and scroll down past your preview window to get to where you can continue typing your message.
Let me know if you need more information. Maybe others can explain this more clearly than I can.
Thanks,
Bruce Hirst

PHPBB really brings me back, it's great.
As far as images go, you can
also use the img tags, like so:
tags.
So this:
Code: Select all
[img]https://hirstarts.com/cryptbridge.jpg[/img]
comes out as this:
.
The only downfall of this is that you have to have a reliable, third-party image host that lets you link directly to an image. Some place like Facebook doesn't really let you do this, some of them will change the direct link and then the image will break, and the amount of places that specifically have this feature has dwindled.
I came across a page called
cubeupload that might work. They have a limit of ~5mb per image, which lets you get a little larger than what phpbb here will let you upload. I've never used them though, so I can't give any personal opinions there.

imgur usually lets you directly link.
I'll test it with one of my old builds.
